The majority of hobby electronics work is done on small items, so in addition to soldering tools, quality hand tools are a must for your workbench. Chances are you already have some of these tools lying around your home, though. A basic electronics toolbox will consist of the most commonly used hand tools such as needle nose pliers, side cutters, wire strippers and screwdrivers of various sizes and types. You will later add to this set other tools as needed for more advanced projects.

Wire Cutter:
As the name implies, used for the cutting of wire. An essential tool, so get a nice one; they are extremely useful. These are fairly inexpensive and high quality, but should not be used to cut anything other than copper wire (electronic leads) as steel wire or aluminum will usually cause indentations to be made in the jaws, thus ruining the tool. These drop forged, professional quality wire cutters make a neat job of trimming off excess wire of various lengths. The cushion grips provide excellent control.

Wire Stripper:
A hand-operated tool designed to cut and remove the insulation from the cut end of an insulated wire, without damaging the solid or stranded wire inside. 20-30AWG is the most common gauge range used for hobbyists.
- Precision holes for wire stripping.
- Easy-to-read markings.
- Several notches of varying size make it easier to cut the insulation without cutting the wire.

Long Nose Pliers/Needle Nose Pliers:
Needle nose pliers are perfect for cutting, bending, pulling, prying, holding and in general any work you need to do with wires. These pliers feature quality drop forged steel construction for durability and insulated vinyl handle grips for comfort. Useful for basic assembly of all kinds.

Screwdriver Set:
For disassembling & reassembling electronics. This
7 Piece Insulated Screwdriver Set features:
- Hardened magnetic tips
- Precision ground shank
- Tapered handle for sure grip
- Includes: 0.4/0.8/1.0/1.2mm slotted and #0/1/2 Philips screwdrivers

Third Hand Tool:
The "Third Hand" is a low cost helper that holds circuit boards in place as you put in components, or if you need to solder delicate parts which require a steady hand. This handy holding device is equipped with ball joint attachments which can position work at any angle. It is handy for positioning pieces to be joined together by solder or adhesive, freeing both hands. Two adjustable metal clips hold your circuit boards and a magnifying glass is of great help for the really tricky constructions.
