The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Robotics Invention System
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 is the newest generation of LEGO robots that you can build and program. It features the NXT Intelligent Brick 32-bit microprocessor, a large matrix display, three interactive servo motors, four sensors (one ultrasonic, two touch sensors and a color sensor that works in three ways: it detects color, it detects light intensity and it also works as a color lamp) and an easy to use programming interface.
The LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 has four input and three output ports, Bluetooth and a USB interface. It contains a total of 612 pieces including four new piece types and building instructions for four new amazing robot models:
- Shooterbot: a moving vehicle robot that guards an area by shooting balls at intruders.
- Robogator: an alligator-like robot that protects its area by jumping and snapping at anything that comes near.
- Color Sorter: a robotic sorting machine that can select different objects by color and shoot them using a catapult mechanism.
- Alpha Rex: a humanoid robot that can walk, turn, dance, talk, "see" and avoid obstacles, grab and distinguish between objects of different colors.
The new LEGO Mindstorms 1.1 software has many exciting new features and is very easy to use. It offers more customizable programming and an icon-based intuitive drag-and-drop interface. It includes 16 fun programming challenges, and of course you can use it to build and program your own robotic creations as well. LEGO has also announced that 10 additional models will be made available on the official LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 website with full building instructions.
