The PICkit 2 is a low cost development programmer capable of programming most of Microchip’s PIC Flash microcontrollers. New device support can be added by updating the operating system.

PICkit 2 Starter Kit

PICkit 2 Starter Kit

The kit includes a PICkit 2 microcontroller programmer, USB cable and CD ROM. The PICkit 2 Starter Kit contains two main components: a Windows based programming interface and an evaluation board.

The PICkit 2 Starter Kit programming interface gives the user a friendly environment for programming baseline and mid-range Flash PIC microcontrollers using USB to communicate to the PICkit 2 microcontroller programmer. When a project HEX file is sent to the demo board, it is programmed into the PIC16F690 device installed in the evaluation socket.

The Low Pin Count Demo Board demonstrates the features of the 8,14 or 20-pin Flash PIC microcontrollers. Available inputs are a push button and a potentiometer. Outputs available are 4 LEDs.

To help users get up to speed with the baseline and mid-range Flash PIC microcontrollers, twelve sequential lessons are included in the User’s Guide.

PICkit 2 Features:

  • Low pin count demo board supporting 8/14/20-pin mid range PIC microcontrollers
  • 20-pin PIC16F690 mid range microcontroller (requires the AC162061 ICD Header and AC164110 adapter to debug)
  • A series of 12 Lessons on assembly programming that cover I/O, A/D converters, timers, interrupts, and data tables (all source code files are provided)
  • Getting Started in PICBASIC PRO tutorial on developing and debugging in BASIC with the free microEngineering Labs PICBASIC PRO™ Demo Compiler (included in the PICkit 2 CD)
  • HI-TECH PICC™ LITE C Compiler with MPLAB IDE
  • Free Microchip’s MPLAB IDE software for a complete code development environment
